Before his untimely death in the summer of 2007 Bambuco artistic director Simon Barley and Culture 10 creative director Stella Hall were putting the finishing touches to an audacious project to construct a temporary suspension bridge with a 125m span across the river Tyne. After a necessary period of reflection, the Bambuco team, which is based in Australia but has members in France and the UK, has agreed that the project can be delivered. The plan now is for the Tyne’s latest (temporary) bridge to be constructed in July 2008.The main material utilised will be 7,700 metres of Chinese bamboo. EI will support Bambuco’s artistic endeavour by acting as UK project producer , organising logistics, H&S and crowd management for what promises to be one of the most extraordinary live art events seen in the UK this year.
