Position: Creative Producer

FLYING DRAGON CIRCUS was a co-production between Event International Co.Ltd., Chaoyang Cultural Exchange Association (Beijing), and Pierrot Bidon (Studio de Marseilles) to create a touring show which combined the best of Chinese and European circus traditions. The show premiered in Beijing in May 2008 before making its’ UK debut at the Newcastle Theatre Royal on the 14th July, after which it will toured round Britain and Europe.

Flying Dragon Circus promised to be a new and original circus experience which was highly accessible to audiences in the U.K. It drew upon the traditional expertise of Chinese performers in disciplines such as acrobalance, contortionism, and tumbling, but it also introduced real flying and aerial skills through the involvement of some of the leading British exponents of aerial theatre. Many were trained at Circus Space in London, which was partner in the project. Other innovations in the show were live music from an Anglo-Chinese band and a thoroughly contemporary pacing, sensibility and humour which located the performance in any 21st Century world city, be it Newcastle or London, Shanghai or Beijing.

Flying Dragon Circus was also be promoted as part of the China Now programme, the largest ever celebration of Chinese culture, in the lead up to the Beijing Olympics.
